Discipline and control are two different ideologies. While discipline is beautiful, control is ugly; Discipline is understanding and control is suppression. Needless to say that we at Mary Gardiner's Convent School instill a clear sense of discipline in our children, because controlling them would mean them robbing them of all that they have to offer to this world. The word discipline comes from disciples, the Latin word for pupil. In fact, it is also the root word of the modern word “disciple”,which defines a person as someone who is willing to learn. At Mary Gardiner's Convent School, we understand that instilling habits by way of explanation and example is by far more valuable than trying to force students into inculcating them. Our aim is to nurture a sense of responsibility in the students so that they themselves understand what they must do and how they must behave in different circumstances. Bestowing them duties and responsibility gives them a feeling of importance and belongingness which in turn drives them to be the best and do the best they can. Carrying out their duties successfully develops in them a sense of pride and self - confidence.
